There is a moment many healers describe — usually somewhere between their first paying client and their first tax return — when they realise that the work they trained for and the work of running a business are two very different things. Nobody warned them. Their teacher talked about holding space, about energy, about the sacred responsibility of working with another person's wellbeing. Nobody mentioned invoicing.

This is not a failing on anyone's part. It is simply the reality of choosing a vocation that sits at the intersection of calling and commerce. You trained to heal. You did not train to be a business owner. And yet, here you are.

The good news is that these two identities are not in conflict, even if they sometimes feel that way.

Many wellness practitioners carry an unspoken belief that caring about money somehow diminishes the purity of their work. That charging properly, tracking income, thinking about profit — all of it sits uncomfortably alongside the values that brought them to healing in the first place. There can be a quiet guilt about wanting to earn well from something that feels so deeply personal.

But consider this. A healer who cannot pay their rent cannot keep their treatment room. A practitioner who undercharges, keeps no records, and ignores their finances is not more spiritual — they are simply more vulnerable. And vulnerability in business has a habit of ending businesses.

Running a practice is an act of service in its own right. It keeps you available. It keeps you consistent. It keeps you here.
