Writing as a Spiritual Practice

By Crystal Hearts® Press Editorial8/26/2026

When you treat the page as a place of presence rather than performance, the work changes — and so do you.

There's a difference between writing to produce something and writing to be present with something. The first treats the page as a factory; the second treats it as an altar.

When you write as a spiritual practice, you stop demanding that every session yield a chapter. You show up, you breathe, you listen for what wants to be written. Some days nothing comes. That counts. You're training a kind of attention that most of modern life erodes.

Keep a separate notebook for this kind of writing — not your manuscript, not your outline, just the daily act of meeting yourself on the page. Over months you'll notice themes emerging that your conscious mind would never have handed you. That material, refined, often becomes the truest part of your book.
